Rev. Sheelagh’s Thought For The Week

This past Sunday we talked about the universal language of prayer.  Our faith is a relational one, and we are in conversation with Jesus who longs to be in relationship with us.  Many of us are aware of the power of prayer, and ask for prayers for others each week.  How about we take that live, and actually ask people we know if there is someone for whom they would like prayer.

I met someone I haven’t seen for a while today when I was walking in the park.  She stopped and we chatted.  Slowly the diagnosis and prognosis came out, and I offered her prayers.  When she goes to receive her treatments at St Barnabas, I hope she will remember as she drives past our church, that we are praying for her.  And my prayer is that she will be uplifted and strengthened just knowing that +

Cemetery Tour Report
2016cemeterytour

Two of the responses made on comment sheets available to those who attended our cemetery tour on Sunday were:  (1)  “We absolutely enjoyed this tour; the impersonated performances are wonderful and educational.”  (2) “Each of the ‘characters’ did an outstanding job.”  These are typical of the many written and spoken comments received and reflect the great work of the impersonators.  These “front line” people were supported by the tour guides, who led tours through the route that included stops at a dozen burial sites, and by members of the gate staff who assembled the tours.

Vital logistical support was provided in the form of chairs at the grave sites and tables where needed by Roger Riedel and Paul Boegershausen, and Roger made it possible for people with limited mobility to participate by providing rides on a golf cart at various junctures. The hospitality staff greeted tourists at the end, and publicity efforts by coordinating committee members and others helped swell attendance to 105 tourists.  Donations totaled $342.  Thanks and congratulation are due to all 30 plus people on the staff, that included four members of the Millburn-Short Hills Historical Society, which collaborated with St. Stephen’s in offering the tour.
